[*] CIRA and IX mentioned in Wpg Free Press this morning

This article looks like it is from an interview with Byron. The part of the
article that I found strange was "The exchanges are essentially just large
warehouses filled with computer servers to route traffic." This may describe a
co-locate facility where an exchange may exists but does not really describe an
exchange.

I agree that routing traffic through the US adds latency but I do not think that
security should be part of this discussion. The current situation is that
latency is introduced often by routing traffic back and forth in Canada.

I agree with Sean and John that raising security as a justification of an IX is
irrelevant. We use all kinds of Internet services and it is impossible to have a
sense of where your data is stored. To suggest that we should be concerned is
not helpful.

I will give the reporter a pass on the title of the article. From my experience
with MBnet I would complain to reporters that the title of their article changed
the emphasis of what I was saying completely. They would agree but would say
that it is out of their control and that the editors created the title.

Even if MBIX had 100% participation of the ISPs in Manitoba I could not see the
title of the article ever being true.
