Fedora 19 was just released and one of the features is "Federated VOIP".

I haven't had time to really look at it but it seems interesting.

They do have the SRV DNS records for SIP (Just like Microsoft Lync) so in
theory you could make SIP-SIP calls to open federated Lync organizations.
