[RndTbl] Web Bugs

I've been reading an alarming article in 2600
"How to Regain Privacy on the Net"
which mentions web bugs. There doesn't
seem to be much defense against these little
critters. I've checked  
http://freshmeat.net  but there doesn't seem
to be much there.
  Is there any software I can use in Linux to
keep these web bugs off my computer, or to
detect these bugs if they are already in it ?
