Since pretty much all mail clients now have a preview mode which
displays the top few lines of the email; top posting is actually
practical. This is especially important on smart phones and devices
with small displays.

Microsoft wins this one first on volume (outlook being the most
popular email client) and second by accidentally providing a useful
feature.

I still prefer inline replies for detailed technical discussions.
