MTS doesn't support static IPs on residential lines. Unless you want to
upgrade to one of their business accounts, which puts you into >$80/month
territory.

One option that I use for this exact reason, is les.net. Les gives you a
static IP right off the bat - and you have the option of gettings /29's for
$5/month.

Assuming you have a dry-loop installed, you can use whatever modem you want
to connect to the DSLAM, as all it does is send stuff over the wire. You're
under no obligation to run what MTS offers.

I haven't seen any great 2/2+ modems online for a decent price, but if you
find one please share it as well.

The only reason I mention Les.net is that if MTS has dsl service,
les.netcan get in as well, since he piggybacks on the infrastructure.
