Are you using OpenBSD, or LibreSSL, by any chance?  Let's Encrypt made 
an "interesting" decision about how to deal with their cross-chaining 
cert expiring, and it breaks LibreSSL's certificate chain validation.

Meanwhile, I'll check into it anyway.
